San José Airport (SJO) to La Pavona (Tortuguero)

Tortuguero has no roads in — your journey ends at the La Pavona river dock, where boats continue downriver to the village, and we make sure you’re there in time for yours. From San José the route climbs over the mountains through Braulio Carrillo National Park, dense rainforest walling both sides of the highway, then drops into the Caribbean lowlands past Guápiles and Cariari, where banana plantations stretch to the horizon.
